Fetovaia

Hotel Montemerlo is located about 500ms from the sandy beach of Fetovaia, in the southwest of Elba Island and in the middle of the coastal strip of Costa del Sole.
Characterized by a long ridge with lush Mediterranean vegetation, along the coast with beaches that are protected from the most winds. The beach looks like a half moon of sand (fine white granite sand) and is surrounded on both sides by rocks.
The origin of the name Fetovaia is controversial, but this bay has one of the most romantic stories. Previously the Bay was a very popular and well-visited place of female dolphins who gave birth in this shallow water with mild water temperatures.
Today we see the dolphins further away from the coast, while the coast has become a popular destination for nature and trekking lovers, mountain biking and lovers of good food… but the fans of the “sweet doing nothing” feel also very comfortable here.
Fetovaia is the home of nearly extinct lily (Pancratium maritimum), here it is protected in cooperation with the local association Legambiente and the Costa del Sole.
Services on the beach: bathing establishments, bar-gelateria, self-service, bazaar/newspapers/tabacco, tennis/football, restaurant, children’s playground and rest area.

On holiday with the kids: The Fetovaia Bay has clear shallow waters and is sheltered from currents. This makes it an ideal place for family holidays with children. Within the Pino Solitario beach complex we have a relaxing space with a garden and a playground, which is free of charge to our guests. In this area babies can have a nap and the kids can play away from the heat of the beach, without having to go back to the hotel.

A ten kilometer road with panoramic views of the Tuscan archipelago and Corsica is known as the Costa del Sole: beautiful coves with beaches, steep cliffs and small beaches are accessible only on foot or by boat. This part of the island is characterized by the constant presence of granite, crowned with metamorphic rocks and scrubland formations with rock rose, rosemary, lavender, sun gold and vineyards. Small streams flow through the villages of Pomonte and Chiessi, where it is still the rural tradition of Elba Island obtained.

Elba can be reached easily from Piombino, where three ferry companies are waiting for you. The ferries from Blue Navy, Moby Lines and Toremar offer several times a day a ride to Elba.
While booking your stay at our hotel you can enjoy a discount of 10% to 50% on the Ferry Tickets Blue Navy. Alternatively you can also book directly with the reservation system online with a discount of 5% to 20% to Toremar, Moby Lines and Elba Ferries.
The 10 km long trip to Elba takes about 1 hour by ferry. You can ride to the port of Portoferraio, Porto Azzurro and Rio Marina.
There is also a hydrofoil only for passengers in just 20 minutes on the outskirts of Rio Marina and 15 minutes later in Portoferraio.
On the island, follow the signs to Marina di Campo (about 12 km from Portoferraio) and continue towards Fetovaia (9 km).
Near the port of Portoferraio is offering the taxi stand (tel. 0565 915 112) and Bus Stop ATL (toll-free number 800 317 709), the connections all over the island.

REACH THE ISLAND OF ELBA BY CAR

From the North:
Highway A12 Genoa – Livorno, exit Rosignano.
Proceed along the Aurelia to Venturina – Isola d’Elba and continue to Piombino Marittima.

From the North-East:
Highway A1 Bologna – Florence West, then A11 to Pisa North, then A12, exit Rosignano.
Continue on the SS Aurelia until Venturina – Isola d ‘Elba and from here to Piombino Marittima.
Alternatively, take the s.g.c. Florence – Pisa – Livorno, exit Firenze Scandicci and follow the road until Collesalvetti, then take the Rosignano A12, then you take the highway to Venturina and Piombino.

From the South:
S.S. Aurelia exit Venturina Isola d’Elba, Piombino Marittima.

TO REACH THE ISLAND OF ELBA BY TRAIN

Piombino is only slightly from the Campiglia Marittima train station. Which connects Rome with Grosseto and Livorno with Pisa.
