BAY OF FETOVAIA
Working
your way round the island on the south-west
coast you come across a deep sheltered bay framed by and intense green
Mediterranean flora. Its the ideal location for nature
lovers, trekking enthusiasts, mountain bikers and for those of you who just
want to lie back, relax and forget your troubles. Fetovaia is a purely and typically tourist locality
and owes its fame to the bay surrounded by a wild promontory covered by the
Mediterranean macchia vegetation, which extends into the crystal clear sea
and protects the beach from most winds making the water particularly warm and
calm. The creek is formed by 250 mt of fine
white sand, while on the left side the coast is formed by flat rocks, which
can be reached by a path towered by a small pinewood, where you can rest in
the shade. Fetovaia represents the ideal solution for a
holiday with children as the water is low, calm and without tides.
Directly on the beach you can find the bathing establishment "Pino
Solitario" (Solitary Pine), which offers the
chance to hire beach umbrellas and deckchairs, a self-service restaurant and
a bar, a guarded car park, a tennis court and a bazaar that sells cigarettes
and newspapers.
THE COSTA DEL
SOLE
On the south-west side of Elba, we find the part of the
island called Costa del Sole. This coast is characterized by the constant presence
of granite crowned by contact metamorphic rocks, cistus garigue, rosemary,
lavender, elicristo, Mediterranean macchia vegetation and old vineyard
terraces.
Ten Km of scenic roads with views over
the archipelago and Corsica criss-cross the whole of the Costa del Sole,
enchanting bays whith equipped beaches, low rocks and higt cliffs, small
beaches accessible only on foot or boat. Small bays protect villages like Chiessi
and Pomonte where Elba peasant traditions live on. Breathtaking views and never-ending
sunsets will leave you with unforgettable memories.
